High ratings for 'Camp Rock,' the Disney Channel's Jonas Brothers Movie

Friday night's premiere of "Camp Rock" on the Disney Channel, er, rocked (sorry!) in the ratings, drawing 8.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Among those, 3.4 million were tweenagers, the 9- to 14-year-olds Disney targets.

"Camp Rock" -- which as The Times' Robert Lloyd pointed out in his review, is sort of a Jonas Brothers movie, but mostly not, and co-stars Demi Lovato, who is seen as the inheritor of Miley Cyrus' crown -- now stands as the Disney Channel's second-most-watched TV movie of all time. It falls behind, of course, last summer's record-breaking ratings for "High School Musical 2." That cultural phenomenon/franchise brought in 17.2 million viewers and was the most-watched entertainment (meaning, excluding sports) telecast ever on basic cable.

But "Camp Rock" did outdraw the first "High School Musical" movie, which had an audience of 7.7 million in its initial airing in 2006.

In a cross-platforming strategy among various Disney properties, "Camp Rock" will be rebroadcast on ABC's "Wonderful World of Disney" tonight (Saturday) and on ABC Family tomorrow (Sunday).

Interview with Meaghan Jette Martin!

Hey campers!

Here's an interview with Camp Rock's Meaghan Jette Martin.

192737_1  CAREER QUESTIONS:

So, to start off, what is your role in Camp Rock?
I play Tess Tyler, who is kind of the antagonist in the movie.

When did you start acting and singing?
I started about 3 to four years ago. I did a couple of professional acting. But I started acting and singing when I was about three, so abour eleven years ago. -laughs-

Why did you decide to audition for Camp Rock?
Actually, my agent tells me to audition for whatever. So at first, I thought that it wasa Nickelodeon movie, then I learned that it was a Disney Channel Original Movie.

Everyone is saying that there will be a Camp Rock 2. Will you be a part of the cast again if you had a chance?
I would definitely love ot be a part of the cast if there was a Camp Rock 2.

Was it hard playing the mean girl in the movie?
It’s not that hard to play the mean girl in the movie because you can sometimes just feel it. But after you act it out, you feel bad for being mean. -laughs-

What do you miss most about the set?
I miss the cast members the most. They’re such great people.

Were did you hang out the most on set?
We mostly hung out in school, because we had to do school first thing in the day for three hours.

What was the best role that you have ever gotten?
It was probably my role as Tess in Camp Rock. It was really fun.

You have a beautiful voice! Are you planning on releasing an album soon?
Thank you! I actually am planning on releasing an album by the end of this year or early next year.

If you weren’t singing or acting, what would you be instead?
I would probably be a garbage man. -laughs- Just kidding. I would probably be a teacher or a fashion designer, but I don’t know how to draw, so I’ll be a teacher.

What is the best part in your career?
The best part in my career is getting to meet new people and making new friends.

What is one thing that you can’t wait for until the end of the year?
I can’t wait until Camp Rock premieres because I want to see what you guys will think of it.

FAN QUESTIONS:

My co-owner Megan wants to know what was the coolest part about being a correspondent for the Disney Channel Games?
It was fun! I was answering questions most of the time, even though I was supposed to be asking more questions. -laughs- So you can go check them out over at disneychannelgames.com.

Clara wants to know if there was any drama off-set?
Actually, no, not at all. I know it sounds like it’s not true, but it actually is. The whole cast got along together really well!

This is a question from Alexa: Will there be a Camp Rock tour?
There are talks about having a Camp Rock tour.

Lanie is asking who was the funniest person on set?
Hmm… I would probably say it’s a tie between Demi, Joe and Nick. -laughs- Nick is quiet, but he says a lot of funny things.

Margee from Camp Rock Online wants to know one thing that no one knows about you.
Hm.. that is a good question. Maybe it’s the fact that I have bad vision. I wear contacts, and if I take them out, I will be legally blind. Like, if I look at objects down on the ground, like a bug for example, I would be seeing the bug in 2-D. I guess that’s one thing that not a lot of people know about me. -laughs-

Carey from Canada is asking who were you closest to on set?
That is a though question. I am very close with everyone on set. I am very close with Demi, the Jonas Brothers, Anna Maria, Jasmine, Roshon, Jordan… I would name the whole cast so I’ll just stop. -laughs-

Tricia is asking if you have seen Camp Rock yet?
I have actually, I have seen it two times!

THIS OR THAT:

Jonas Brothers or Bonus Jonas?
Bonus Jonas. Frankie’s adorable!

Acting or Singing?
Hmm… can’t I choose in between? -laughs- Okay, I pick in between.

Harry Potter or Twilight?
I would pick Harry Potter. I am a huge fan! Everyone should love Harry Potter.

Hannah Montana or Lizzie McGuire?
I would pick Hannah Montana.

Pizza or Hotdogs?
Hotdogs.

Demi and Selena’s v-logs or the Miley and Mandy Show?
I like both of their videos, they’re really funny, but I would pick Demi’s and Selena’s, since I only talked to Miley once and we haven’t really gotten to know each other well yet.

LAST MESSAGE:

Here’s my last question. If you can say anything to your fans right now, what would you say?
Thank you for all your support, because without you guys, I would probably be alone in my room talking to myself. -laughs-

What is "Camp Rock"?

Camp Rock is a 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie starring the teen pop sensations the Jonas Brothers. It begins June 20 2008. The musical is written by Julie Brown, Paul Brown, Regina Hicks and Karen Gist. The movie is directed by Matthew Diamond and produced by Alan Sacks. On January 25, 2008, during the commercials for Minutemen it was announced that Camp Rock would debut in June 2008.

Camp Rock tells a rock 'n' roll Cinderella story. Camp Rock, a music-filled Disney Channel Original Movie, featuring the Jonas Brothers as members of a leading musical group, Connect Three. When member Shane Gray (Joe Jonas) needs to counter his bad boy rocker image, he is sent by his fellow band members Nate (Nick Jonas) and Jason (Kevin Jonas) to the music camp as a guest instructor. There he meets camper Mitchie Torres (Demi Lovato), a teen girl with an extraordinary voice and a driving ambition to be a pop singer, who has enough to deal with, considering Tess Tyler (Meaghan Jette Martin) and her companions, Ella (Anna Maria Perez de Tagle) and Peggy (Jasmine Richards) torture her. But unfortunately she can only spend her summer at the expensive camp by helping her mom work in the mess hall between classes. When her secret is exposed, she is banned from all camp activities. She feels very discouraged and sings a song, when Shane overhears Mitchie singing from behind closed doors, without seeing her, he sets out to find the girl with the beautiful voice because the music she was singing reminds him of the things he used to love.
